Abilene Regional Airport Runway Ribbon Cutting
Abilene Regional Airport will celebrate the opening of Runway 17R/35L with a ribbon cutting ceremony on February 7, 2017 at 2:00pm.
This marks the official opening after its closure in July 2015 to begin a complete reconstruction of the runway that included the removal and replacement of the base material and asphalt. Total cost for the reconstruction project was $19,558,443. A local match of $1,955,845 from Proposition 9 of the 2015 Bond Election enabled the airport to receive $17,602,598 from a federal airport improvement grant. The runway reconstruction was necessary for safety and capacity. It has a projected lifetime of approximately 25 years.
The ribbon cutting will take place on Taxiway R on the airfield. Parking will be on Navajo Trail, gate 24 will open for entrance to Taxiway at 1:45pm.
