Public Invited to Workshop Regarding Land Use Planning Around Dyess Air Force Base

Post Date:03/03/2017 11:20 AM

The City of Abilene, in cooperation with the City of Tye, Taylor County, Dyess Air Force Base (AFB), local property owners, and other agencies and organizations in the region, is preparing a Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) to address planning around Dyess AFB.  The primary objective of the JLUS is to reduce current and potential conflicts between Dyess AFB and surrounding communities while accommodating new growth and economic development, sustaining economic vitality of the region, protecting public health and safety, and sustaining the operational missions of Dyess AFB.

At this workshop, the public will be able to review and comment on the compatibility issues that have been identified for evaluation as part of the JLUS and provide input on the prioritization of the issues identified.  The issues that will be presented were developed based on inputs from the Policy Committee and Technical Advisory Committee (made up of representatives from the jurisdictions, agencies and organizations involved in this project), stakeholder interviews, and public input provided at the first Public Workshop held on October 3, 2016.  At the upcoming workshop, participants will be able to learn more about existing compatibility concerns and provide input on the actions that would be considered to address them.

Your input on additions or changes to this list will be welcomed.  In order to develop a study and recommendations that are responsive to local needs, input from the community is essential!

The public is encouraged to join us at this meeting, learn more about this planning study, and provide input on the issues to be addressed.  This meeting will be held:

Date:               Monday, March 6, 2017

Time:               6:00 to 8:00 PM

Location:          Tye Community Center, 105 Scott Street, Tye, TX 79563
