Structure Fire – 1000 Block of South 14th Street

The Abilene Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 1000 block S. 14th Street around 7:00 Saturday morning. Upon arrival there was heavy fire and smoke coming from the front of the house. Strong winds fanned the flames and spread embers throughout the neighborhood. These embers ignited a shed and caused several spot fires in the surrounding area. The intense flames also ignited a neighboring house causing several thousand dollars in damage. A 2nd Alarm was dispatched to help control these additional fires. Two people were at home at the time of the fire and were able to escape without injury.  Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire. Several homes in the area reported power and television cable outages due to the fire. Utility companies are on scene attempting to restore these services. As of these release, fire crews remain on the scene. The house is a total loss with damages estimated at $50,000.
