Structure Fire, 2400 Arrowhead Rd

On July 12th, 2017, at approximately 10:25am the Abilene Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire at 2400 Arrowhead Rd.  Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from an upstairs apartment at the Warwick Apartments. After arriving on scene the firefighters were notified of a possible entrapment and quickly performed search and rescue operations. A 9 year old male self-rescued, a 27 year old female was rescued by bystanders and a 4 year old male was rescued by firefighters. All 3 patients were treated on scene and transported to Hendrick Medical Center. The 27 year old female and 4 year old male were flown to UMC Timothy J. Harnar Burn Center in Lubbock. 1 firefighter was transported to Hendrick Medical Center for minor burns.

After search and rescue was complete a fire attack was made, and the fire was quickly brought under control. 2 animals were found deceased in the affected apartment but many animals were rescued from surrounding units. The Red Cross determined 21 people are currently displaced from 8 surrounding apartment units. The apartment and adjoining units sustained heavy fire damage, estimated at $100,000. The fire cause is still under investigation and investigators are currently still on scene gathering information. Further information will be released when it becomes available.
