Frequently Asked Questions

How much are the materials at the sale?
Most hardback and trade paperback titles sell for $1.75; mass-market paperbacks are $0.75; children's books are sold by the inch for $1.25.

There will also be two specialty areas including the Corner Store featuring almost new books at a fraction of the original cost and the Antiques & Uniques area for rare and collectible materials.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash or checks and credit cards and debit cards.
Where do the items in the sale come from?
The majority materials are donations from the community. Only a small fraction of materials come from the library's general collection.
Will there be children's books available?
Yes. There is a separate children's section and we suggest you arrive at the sale early as this area is a popular section.
What happens to the books at the end of the sale?
Any remaining materials are donated to local organizations and non-profits. No materials are used towards next year's sale unless donated back to the library at a later time.
Can I continue to donate materials during the sale?
Although we appreciate your donations, we ask that you not donate materials once materials are moved to the Civic Center. You may begin to donate after the sale has ended.
Can I volunteer at the sale if I'm not a Friends member?
Yes. There are a number of volunteer opportunities both before, during, and after the sale. It's a great opportunity to see what the Friends do.
Do I need to be a Friend or have an library card to attend the sale?
Only the Preview Sale requires a Friends membership.
Are there refunds on purchases?
No. All sales are final.
Where do the proceeds go?
Proceeds go towards benefiting the Abilene Public Library. Your support of the sale not only helps you stock your personal libraries, it helps to support your public libraries.
