PROJECT COMPLETED AUGUST 2016
Bond program improvements, completed in August 2016, have transformed the Abilene Civic Center into a modern, versatile venue that will accommodate a wide range of events. A new lighting system, provides the exhibit hall a lively ambiance as well as greater energy efficiency. The computerized system can create millions of different colors, and the new LED lights last more than six times longer than the previous fluorescent bulbs did. The exhibit hall renovations also replaced the sound system and rehabilitated the walls, floors and kitchen.
The renovations also equipped the auditorium with an automated fly system, at left, to move curtains, lights and theater set pieces. The previous 50-ton counterweight fly system was nearly 45 years old and had to be operated manually.
