The bond program dedicates $4.2 million to Proposition 9, a local match that enables Abilene Regional Airport to receive $38 million in federal airport improvement grants.
The first bond project at the airport was completed in December. Runway 17R/35L was fully reconstructed, with all of its asphalt and base material removed and replaced.
Work is underway on the airport master plan update and security system improvements. A coal tar sealant project is planned for the asphalt taxiways. A ramp rehabilitation project on the northwest side of the airport is expected to begin in 2020 or 2021, using FAA grant funds carried over from 2018-20. Priorities may be adjusted depending on airfield needs and direction from the FAA.
