Featured Event: Meet Terri Doty, Voice Actress

Don't miss your chance to meet Terri Doty, who will be visiting the Abilene Public Library during the final & busiest day of Lib-Con. If you're into anime, you may have heard her providing the voice to a host of characters. View her credits online and see for yourself. Come hear her presentation and participate in a signing for the last 30-minutes of her visit. It's an exciting opportunity to connect you with talented people working in an industry you're a fan of.

Featured Event: Meet Mark Crilley, Graphic Novel Author/Illustrator

In partnership with our friends at the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature, Mark Crilley will return to the Abilene Public Library to host a special program for Lib-Con. As an American manga creator, artist and children's book author/illustrator, he'll be on hand to talk about his works, sign autographs, and also show off his illustration skills. His works include series such as Miki Falls and Akiko, Crilley also is known for sharing his drawing talents in a popular series on his YouTube page. Don't miss your opportunity to meet him in person at Lib-Con this year.

    Kids & Parents are invited to join us after storytime for a popular movie showing. This year we're watching "Pete's Dragon," the new live action remake of the Disney animated classic.  Along with this movie showing, there will be pizza and lemonade (while supplies last) and kids will get the chance to make their own dragon craft. This event is mostly aimed at preschool children, but anyone is welcome to come.

    We all know Doctor Who is one of the best fandoms around - so come celebrate it at the library! We have a full night planned of crafts, trivia, and games. Besides Doctor Who themed board games we will have live trivia going on the entire time...you may even get to make a cool Tardis card, and it's literally bigger on the inside.     Level up your basic crochet skills! We'll be teaching you how to develop your basic crochet skills so that you can make cute and cuddly amigurumi. We do as that you already be able to do a single crochet and slip stitch, but don't miss out on this fun craft workshop.

    Come and join us for a special storytime during Lib-Con where we're encouraging kids to dress in their favorite My Little Pony gear. We'll be reading stories about ponies and friendship, plus we'll have two super fun crafts to make too. Don't miss out on all the fun.

    Ever wanted to visit Diagon Alley in real life? Come dress as a wizard or muggle to this special event where you'll be able to create your own wand, potion, owl, and broom.  Then, be prepared to take pictures under your favorite House banner! Stay after the crafting fun and watch the first Harry Potter movie with other fans of the series. Crafts will start at 4PM and available until 5:30PM, then the movie starts at 6PM.

    Come out to this event for older teens and adults and learn about character creation and game play. This event is designed for those who want to get into D&D, but haven't been quite exposed to how fun this role-playing game truly is.     Join us for a great Make & Take event that takes us right back to the world of Super Mario! Come out and make your own Piranha Plant craft that actually moves in this free event that will make everyone nostalgic for this classic gaming series. All materials supplied, just come ready for fun!

    If you're a teen, and you're feeling the retro groove, come on down to the library for this craft session during Lib-Con.  We'll be making awesome pop-up greeting cards inspired by everyone's favorite retro games like Super Mario Brothers and Pac-Man. All materials will be supplied, so come show your love for the classics.

    77 - Face Off Contest

    Don't miss the second year of this popular contest where make-up artists will compete in a sci-fi/fantasy themed special effects challenge.  Audience members are encouraged to ask questions while the artists race to beat the clock.  Plus, The Gathering Place will also be on hand to lead a few rounds of Ultimate Werewolf and other tabletop games.

    Following our Jedi Academy event, everyone is invited to enjoy a showing of the movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens (PG-13). In this his flick, stormtrooper Finn, desert dweller Rey,and BB-8 get caught up in a galactic war when they come across a map containing the whereabouts of the vanished Luke Skywalker.  Don't miss out on this great movie event at Lib-Con.

    Jon us as we make anime emoticon marks out of perler beads. Every good anime character has an anger mark or sweat drop appear, and here's your chance to make your own.     If you're just starting out in cosplay, this is the place for you to be! We'll go over the super basics on getting started including how to put on a wig so that it won't fall off to where to find cosplay supplies right here in Abilene. A Q&A session will be conducted at the end to answer all of your burning questions. Come learn how to get started.

    Be sure to participate in Free Comic Book Day at your library, during the final day of Lib-Con. Stop by any location and pick up a free comic, while supplies last. This event is made possible with the partnership of Comics and Collectibles on S. 14th. We do ask that you limit yourself to one comic per person to make sure everyone has a chance to snag one.

Doty will also be a special guest judge for the Cosplay Contest too.

    Local LARP (Live Action Role Playing) group, The Barony of Skywatch, will be on hand to explain what they do as a LARP group and will demo swordplay techniques. Waivers will be required for those that want to try their hand at battling.
